25 Oct Reading retreat
When you’ve lived in a place a long time, sometimes you just need a makeover. But it isn’t always feasible to tackle everything at once and so you decide to tackle it room by room. Such was the case in this Nashville house.
Erika Thompson with JL Design came up with the plan for the colorful living room which makes me smile. And I’m guessing the owner is pleased with the results, given that she’s a writer with quite the book collection and they are definitely the focal point in the fantastic wall to wall shelves.
All the books you see are from the client’s personal collection, both fiction and non-fiction, and are very meaningful to the client.
Have you ever seen shelves arranged quite like this? Usually there are many things besides books in bookshelves but not here. The designer wanted to highlight them in a unique way and because the owner had so many beautiful hardbacks and varying colors, Erika thought coordinating them in this way would be a fun approach to add an artsy feel to the otherwise neutral space.
Erika says they kept the furniture pieces and accents neutral and monochromatic in color so that the books are the star of the show. I think they accomplished that. I do love the blue chair as a pop of color with the furry pillow. It’s a vintage piece that was purchased at a garage sale and recovered. The rug is new, from Sprintz Furniture.
The leather chair comes from GrandinRoad and the art featured in this living room is by a local artist, Angela Simone. I think the pieces add alot of interest without distracting from the impressive book collection.
The couch is from West Elm. The round mirror is from Cb2.
JL Design’s owner Jessica Davis says, “For me, Interior Design is defined by functional and unique creativity, tailored to each individual.” And in case you didn’t know, JL Design has been featured on HGTV’s “Property Brothers,” DIY Network’s “Nashville Flipped” and “America’s Most Desperate Kitchens.” Nashville Lifestyles At Home also named them best interior design firm in 2017 too!
I feel like this room has a young vibe to it. But I can’t tell you who lives here other than it’s a mystery writer. Doesn’t that make it even more intriguing??? Now I can’t wait to see the rest of the house, room by room. Hoping to get a peek in the near future to share with you.
Thanks to JL Design for sharing their work in this lovely writer’s retreat. And thank you for following Stylish Retreats.
